Pulver Chemical Company began producing machines in 1899 with the Wood case machines and the painted tin machines. A few years later they switched the company name to Pulver Chocolate & Chicle Mfg which was a much better name for a company selling gum and gum machines. As is obvious by the pictures above, Pulver machines are one of my favorite areas of collecting. They not only fall in the coin op category, but could also be considered advertising and be called a toy as well with the animation of the puppet. The "puppets" were popular cartoon characters during the time period--Buster Brown, Yellow Kid, Uncle Sam, Happy Hooligan, and Foxy Grandpa. The Pulver Company went out of business in 1954 and made thousands, and thousands of machines.
